In 2012, a group of young ladies wanted to join a sorority on the Portland State University campus. However, they were disappointed when they realized that none of the sororities on campus seemed to fit their values or beliefs. In addition, they also did not see themselves represented among the other sororities. Fortunately, a year later, a couple of women from Oregon State University pitched the idea of creating their own Kappa Delta Chi chapter on campus. The sorority was very different from others already established on campus. It was unique and something everyone was looking for all along. The sorority urged its members to earn good grades, give back to the community, and was diverse. They also wanted to empower women as well as form bonds that could last a lifetime. So, after realizing that this is what they were looking for, they all got together and started finding ways to bring Kappa Delta Chi to Portland State. They knew that the process was not going to be easy, but they took on the new, exciting, and unknown journey that laid ahead. Little by little, the group of women organized meetings and events in hopes to bring Kappa Delta Chi to the Portland State campus.

   Becoming a colony for Kappa Delta Chi was not easy, but each lady was determined to make it happen. They had to learn to get organized, learn to manage their time, and learn how to compromise in order to get things done. They first became an interest group for Kappa Delta Chi on January 26th, 2014 and called themselves the Rose City Emeralds. The Rose City Emeralds worked hard for the next several months to become a prospective colony, and on December 12th, 2014, their dedication paid off; they continued to work hard in order to then become official sisters. 

   On January 23rd, 2015, the women were pinned and began their next journey in learning what it actually meant to be a Kappa Delta Chi sister. After completing the last of the requirements, these women were able to officially call themselves the Charter class members of the colony of Kappa Delta Chi at Portland State University on March 20th, 2015. The Charter class member names are:
